A detailed look at the revised 2024 Yamaha YXZ1000R.

Yamaha made simple but important changes to its YXZ1000R sport machine for 2024, adding a sixth gear to both the manual and automated manual transmissions, and new shifting modes for the automatic models. Now, the Yamaha YXZ1000R SS gets four different shift modes, which alter the transmission character from smooth and comfortable to more aggressive automatic shifts to fully manual. Yamaha also shortened first gear and revised the clutching to make the machine smoother overall and more manageable over slow terrain. Take a closer look at the revised 2024 Yamaha YXZ1000R below.

Both versions of the YXZ get a sixth gear for next year, and the Sport Shift models get a new set of shifting modes.Yamaha
The Yamaha is down on power compared to competitors from Can-Am and Polaris, but it boasts 17 inches of rear suspension travel, making it something of a desert blasting bargain.Yamaha
Changes for 2024 are all under the skin, with the YXZ1000R’s styling largely unchanged aside from new colors on the XT-R model.Yamaha
The XT-R is the most expensive YXZ, at just under $24,000. For that, you get a Warn 4,500-pound winch, beadlock wheels, and prettier paintwork.Yamaha
Yamaha says first gear is 40 percent lower for 2024, which should improve clutch durability and make rock crawling much easier.Yamaha
Sport Shift models will let drivers choose between a comfort-tuned automatic mode, a more aggressive sport mode, and fully manual shifting via steering column-mounted paddles. Yamaha
Stepping up to the XT-R trim nets you 30-inch Maxxis Bighorn tires on the beadlock wheels.Yamaha
At $20,899, the base YXZ1000R sports a three-pedal sequential manual transmission and comes in Team Yamaha Blue.Yamaha
Team Yamaha Blue is also the base color for the YXZ1000R SS.Yamaha
The YXZ1000R’s aggressive nose-down styling eschews the boxier look of its rivals.Yamaha
