Recently Polaris made an unprecedented move in the off-road racing world. In a couple week period surrounding the BITD Vegas To Reno race and the release of the 2017 Can-Am Maverick X3, they signed or made offers to nearly a dozen race teams. That makes Polaris Racing not only the largest off road racing team, it’s the largest race team or blanket sponsor ever.
Of course all the teams are in control of their own builds and vendors which we think is great. We like to learn from these different teams about what works and what doesn’t. If you take the same components that go into building a great desert racing UTV, you will have a nearly indestructible trail UTV. In many cases, the racers are shop owners themselves so they are racing and winning with the same equipment they sell to the public, It is almost like free advertising.
Here’s a look at the Black Hills Race team Polaris RZR raced by Mike Cafro and Jamie Kirkpatrick. With Cafro’s extensive desert racing background and Kirkpatrick’s attention to detail, the Black Hills guys have as good of a shot at winning the upcoming Baja 1000 as anyone. The interesting thing about this build is this RZR is a normally aspirated machine, but the team races it in the turbo class. SCORE will let you do this for the Baja races. However, in Best In The Desert series, you must run non turbo machines in the non turbo class.
We plan on highlighting and providing build sheets on all of the Polaris RZR race teams as well as the top racers from the other brands like Can-Am, Yamaha, Arctic Cat and Bad Boy Buggy. Yes, we said Bad Boy Buggy. They are coming!!!
