Best in the Desert has announced that this year’s Rigid Golden State 250 has been postponed. The area around California City has seen an unusual amount of snowfall, causing the California Highway Patrol to close a number of roads in the area, and there are good odds that interstates will also be shut down due to snow and ice. As such, the race is being postponed until May.
Best in the Desert has a reputation for running regardless of weather, forcing participants to square off against wind, rain, and dust, but organizers say this is different. If winter weather keeps anyone from actually being able to make it to the racecourse safely, there isn’t much point in holding the event. Participants will now square off against each other May 18–20.
Fortunately, you won’t have to wait that long to scratch the racing itch. The Silver State 300 is still on for April 20–22. For more information, head over to the Best in the Desert site.
