Dustin Jones Notches Can-Am Maverick R’s First Win

The 2024 Can-Am Maverick R won its first-ever race outing last weekend, winning the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 overall with factory driver Dustin Jones behind the wheel. You read that right. At the hands of Dustin Jones, the Can-Am Maverick R beat every other vehicle on the course at the 2023 Silver State 300. In taking the overall win, Jones also secured the UTV overall win and the UTV Pro Turbo class win. Behind Jones, Can-Am drivers Vito Ranuio in a Maverick X3 and Phil Blurton in his Maverick R rounded out the podium, respectively taking second and third overall and in UTV overall and UTV Pro Turbo.

Can-Ams ended up in seven of the top 10 overall spots at the Silver State 300, with a pile of Maverick X3s backing up the Maverick R. Jones completed the 285-mile course in 5:11:39, not quite three minutes ahead of Ranuio. Blurton crossed the line in the second Maverick R 1:05 behind Ranuio with a time of 5:15:39.

“Our Maverick R handled flawlessly,” Jones said. “From start to finish, we put this vehicle to the test and it passed with flying colors.” Jones’ and Blurton’s machines appeared to be pretty close to stock, retaining the Maverick R’s distinctive front end and Tall Knuckle suspension design.

Jones and company will be back in action October 12–15 in Laughlin, Nevada, at the Best in the Desert Laughlin Desert Classic, where they’ll be looking to expand on the early success.

“I’m really pumped to be able to line up with the Maverick R at some more big races to finish off the year,” Jones said.
