Sara Price has become the first American woman to win a stage in the World Rally-Raid Championship. Price piloted her T4-class South Racing Can-Am Maverick to two stage wins at the 2023 Rally of Morocco on her way to second in the class. Price won stages two and three of the rally, before a broken radius rod on the final stage cost her 20 minutes. She eventually finished the final stage in eighth, relegating her to second behind fellow South Racing driver João Ferreira.
Price was in the top five of every stage of the race until the final day. Even after repairs, the back of her rig was crooked, which slowed her way down. Of the 19 cars that started the race in the T4 class, 11 managed to finish the 2,240-kilometer (1,392-mile) course.
The Morocco Rally was Price’s first-ever global rally raid event, and was the biggest part of her prep for her Dakar Rally campaign in early 2024. Finishing second on your first time out is, to put it mildly, not too shabby. Price will next head to Dakar with her South Racing rig.
