The EV company Volcon recently announced a partnership with BFGoodrich Tires for an off-road racing campaign with the 2023 Volcon Stag electric UTV. Not only is racing a chance to test the Stag’s ability to perform under stressful, high-paced conditions, it’s also a chance for BFGoodrich to test its ActivAir suspension system. If all tests are successful, Volcon will implement the ActivAir suspension into the Stag for commercial use.
BFGoodrich’s ActivAir suspension is a central tire-inflation system that allows the system to make “real-time adjustments that aim to enhance the off-road performance and increase the battery range of Volcon’s future UTV products.” That should allow the driver to adjust tire pressures to suit the terrain, such as more pressure for high-speed driving or less pressure for rock crawling.
“Volcon believes that by implementing the ActivAir system in their race vehicle, subsequent testing will be conducted under the harshest of conditions, ensuring future commercial versions will be robust, reliable, and purpose built for the off-road enthusiast and weekend warrior alike,” Volcon said in a press release.
Volcon and BFGoodrich will showcase the vehicle at the BFGoodrich Mint 400 Vehicle Parade on March 8 and at the Off-Road Festival on March 9.
