Lock & Ride makes this job easier than cracking open a cold one.

Polaris spends a lot of time talking about its Lock & Ride accessories, and how easy the Lock & Ride system makes installing new equipment and upgrades. When we installed the roof on our long-term 2021 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss, we got a taste of the tech firsthand. What we weren’t prepared for was just how easy Lock & Ride would make installing windscreens into the Ranger.

While we are specifically installing the $729.99 Lock & Ride Glass windshield and matching $389.99 glass rear panel, the instructions are the same for all the rear panels and most of the full front windshields.

No installation hardware or tools required to put this glass into the Ranger XP 1000.Christian Moe

To get ready for your installation, all you need to do is wash your hands. There are zero tools of any kind required to put the two pieces of glass into the Ranger. If you are worried about the weight of the front windshield, call a friend to help—but calling your friend a tool will get you doing this job solo.

The trickiest part of the rear glass installation is getting both brackets to hook onto the Ranger’s frame.Christian Moe

The first step to installing the rear glass is attaching the lower brackets to the Ranger’s frame behind the seats. The brackets should sit right behind the Polaris logo on the seats.

Once you have the rear glass sitting on the lower brackets, just tip it up against the roll cage. Reach inside the cabin and rotate the two large Lock & Ride knobs at the top of the rear windscreen to secure the glass in place. That’s it. The rear glass is officially installed.

The front glass installation is nearly as simple. Since we have a roof on our Ranger, we needed to slide the top of the glass under the roof lip first. The large plastic piece that mounts the windshield wiper kit goes to the top. Once the windshield is sitting against the frame, just make sure the bottom of the glass is sitting on top of the three mounting blocks. Check the photo above for a visual aid.

Once you have the windshield in place against the roll cage and on top of the three mounts, just reach into the cabin and rotate the four Lock & Ride knobs to secure the windshield. If you find any of the knobs difficult to lock against the frame, recheck that your windshield is centered left to right. The weather stripping can bind up slightly on the frame and prevent the windshield from lying flat against the frame if the unit isn’t totally centered.

There you have it. With the Lock & Ride mounting it took us less than three minutes to install both the front and rear glass into our Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss. The easy install also works both ways, should you need to pull the glass for any reason. If you have a glass unit like ours and are worried about gravel on a fire trail cracking your windshield, just pop it out and set it in the truck for your ride. If you have a plexiglass unit and don’t want to scratch it while driving an overgrown forest trail, within minutes you can be back to an open cabin.
