Less than four months after closing abruptly, Georgia’s famed Durhamtown Off Road Resort has reportedly reopened under new ownership and with a new name. According to the Athens Banner-Herald in Georgia, former Durhamtown owner Mike McCommons sold the business to his brother, Tim, who reopened the resort under the name Georgia Off-Road Adventures.
The 6,000-acre park should look much as it did under Mike McCommons’ ownership, and a grand-opening celebration is planned for May, according to the Banner-Herald. On the heels of the announcement, the crew at SXSBlog headed to the park to make use of its fantastic GP Track.
We visited the park back in October, and had an awesome time thrashing around its wide-open trails and two high-speed closed circuits. The park shut down suddenly back in January, apparently after losing a lawsuit brought by a teen racer who was injured in a motocross race at the park.
With the park’s camping facilities, pro shop, and tracks back open, we’re looking forward to getting a chance to head south and stretch our legs.
