The US Forest Service has just announced that it will be using the Ford F-150 Lightning in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny National Forest, Michigan’s Huron-Manistee National Forest, and the White Mountains National Forest in New Hampshire. One of the goals in using the Lightning is to test how practical the trucks are in remote areas.
If all goes well, the US Forest Service plans to phase out the 8,700 light trucks in its national fleet in favor of Ford’s EV. Jason Kirchner, spokesperson for the US Department of Agriculture, says the F-150 Lightning was chosen over other EV trucks because it’s the only EV pickup truck currently available through the Government Services Administration.
We got a chance to play around with the F-150 Lightning earlier this year, and we were more than impressed with how well it towed. It’s currently the bestselling EV truck, which isn’t a huge accomplishment since there are only two other EV trucks being sold, but something to brag about nonetheless.
