The Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team is off to a superstrong start at this year’s Dakar Rally, with three of its driver pairings in the top five of the T3 Lightweight Prototype class. Austin Jones won Tuesday’s third stage, followed closely by fellow Red Buller Seth Quintero. The second-place stage finish moved Quintero into first place overall in the class. Mitchell Guthrie Jr. notched fourth on the stage, which put him into third overall in the class. Jones’ win means he sits fourth in the T3 class.
The Red Bull team joined forces with Can-Am just before the Dakar, putting Quintero, Jones, and Guthrie in the Maverick X3 chassis, which has been nearly impossible to beat in racing series around the globe. Quintero and Jones are both Dakar podium regulars, too, with Quintero setting a record last year for consecutive stage wins, and Jones winning the rally last year in the SSV T4 class.
The team has certainly given itself a lot to live up to, but for now at least things look very positive for Red Bull and Can-Am.
