The Lee County Sheriff’s Office in Lee County, Florida, just picked up eight Segway Fugleman UTVs to help in its recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian, according to Powersports Business. Lee County was one of the two hardest-hit counties when the Category 4 storm made landfall in September. Lee County is home to some of Florida’s popular Gulf Coast barrier islands, which were all but decimated in the storm. The sheriff’s department is using the Segways in search and rescue efforts on those islands.
Getting the rigs took help from Sun Sports Cycle & Watercraft in nearby Fort Myers. The dealership was also dealt a blow in the storm, but on the department’s request worked with Segway to procure enough units to help out. The department snagged eight UTVs for its recovery efforts, and says it has plans to order more.
The recovery work is quite a debut for the Fugleman, which only recently hit dealerships, after being released to big fanfare last year. We’re excited to hear how the rigs performed.
