It’s been almost two years since Toyota discontinued the Land Cruiser for the North American market, and fans of the legendary SUV have been forced to watch the rest of the world have their fun with it without a chance to buy a brand-new model. Thankfully, Motor Trend has given hope to Land Cruiser fans. In an interview with Jack Hollis, executive vice president of sales for Toyota North America, Motor Trend asked Hollis if the Land Cruiser would return to US markets.

“Will we ever? I would say likely yes,” Hollis says. “Obviously, Land Cruiser is such an important part of our heritage and has done such a great job. And I’ll be looking at it, absolutely. Have I seen designs, thoughts, and hopes, yes. But nothing to announce. It’s still a ways off.”

An off-road-capable SUV that can seat eight people and tow 8,100 pounds? Yes, please.Toyota

Since the return of the Land Cruiser to the US isn’t set in stone, we can only sit and wait for an update. When will that update come? No one knows, but it’s exciting either way. It’s not like there isn’t a market for it in the US, it seems everywhere you look there’s another giant, fuel-inefficient, off-road-capable SUV that can seat up to eight people. Plus, this one has heritage.
