Volcon has pulled the wraps off the Stag, the company’s electric sport-rec side-by-side. The electric UTV packs a stout 125 hp and 265 lb.-ft. of torque from its single 107kW motor. With a 42kWh battery, the company expects most users to see around 100 miles of range from a single charge. Not bad. The Stag uses a dual-purpose bed with an integrated seating for two. With those seats stowed, you get a little more than 26 cubic feet of space for hauling, and Volcon says the Stag can tote up to 1,550 pounds including occupants. It’s no slouch when it comes to towing, either, with a tow rating of 2,000 pounds.
The Stag comes with on-demand four-wheel drive, but this is more than a dumb front differential. The vehicle automatically engages the front axle any time it senses slip at the rear, and can vector power during cornering. The Stag also offers Crawl mode, which is effectively a single-pedal configuration. Engage Crawl mode, and the Stag will work its way up whatever obstacle you aim for, allowing you to just operate the brakes.
Volcon didn’t skimp on the tires, either. The Stag comes with 30-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud Terrains, and the machine relies on Fox external bypass coilovers to handle suspension duty. There’s other trick kit, including an integrated charging module and an A/C compressor.
All of this will set you back a pretty penny. The Stag carries a $39,999 MSRP. If you want one, Volcon’s currently accepting $100 deposits.
