Yamaha Issues Recall for Some 2022 Viking UTVs

Improperly installed rear brake lines can potentially cause a crash.

Yamaha is recalling some Viking UTVs.Yamaha

Yamaha is recalling some of its Viking side-by-sides due to improperly installed rear brake lines. This manufacturing issue can cause brake fluid to leak, making the Viking harder to control. Yamaha warns that the issue could cause crashes and/or injuries, neither of which is ideal unless you’re desperate to land in a Matt’s Off-Road Recovery video. Yamaha plans to repair the affected vehicles.

Recall 22-781 was issued on September 29, 2022, and covers about 330 of the three-passenger vehicles. Machines that fall under this recall have vehicle identification number (VIN) YXM70VPANG/PHNH and YXM70VPRNC (Viking Ranch Edition). This number can be found on the top of the airbox or on the frame behind the left rear wheel. VIN ranges for recalled Yamaha Viking off-road side-by-side include the following:

MY Model VIN Start VIN End
2022 YXM70VPANG ***********101648 ***********101847
2022 YXM70VPHNH ***********101103 ***********101122
2022 YXM70VPRNC (Viking Ranch Edition) ***********101455 ***********101634

Yamaha is contacting all owners directly. Note that these vehicles should be parked immediately and owners should refrain from using them until Yamaha completes a free inspection and repair.  While there have only been four reported incidents of the brake pipe contacting the driveshaft and causing brake fluid to leak, the risk isn’t worth it. No injuries or accidents have been reported. Then again, nobody wants to be the first. Heed Yamaha’s advice and don’t use the machine until Yamaha gives it the all-clear.

Owners of the vehicles affected by this recall can contact Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A. at (800) 889-2624 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time Monday through Friday, or online at yamahamotorsports.com/motorsports/pages/cpsc-recalls or at yamahamotorsports.com—click on “CPSC Recalls” for more information.
