Expedition Overland builds beautiful off-road machines and then carefully documents the adventures they get sent on. While most of their work focuses on Toyota pickups and SUVs, they recently turned a 2020 Polaris General 1000 into a “turn-key recreational rig.” But now that they have had their use of it, the build, named “Curiosity,” is for sale.
The General is a very solid machine in stock form, but there’s always room for improvements. This Polaris General has been extensively modified to support all sorts of overland travel, and the list of upgrades is extensive to say the least. It comes with a full heated cab with a pop-up windshield and wiper, plus a full stereo and integrated GPS. The tires have been swapped to 31-inch General Grabber X3 truck tires, and the OEM wheels are gone in favor of ICON wheels—though the original wheels and tires are also included in the sale. Mini MaxTrax recovery boards geared for UTV use come with the vehicle, as does a 4,500-pound winch.
Even bigger-ticket items bring up the wow factor. Included in the sale is a set of Polaris Prospector Pro snow tracks, which should make the General nearly unstoppable in the winter. And if you want to use it for clearing a driveway, there’s a Polaris Hydraulic Plow System. It also has an HD Front Bumper, hood rack, skid plates, side step sliders, and bed extender all directly from Polaris. Other modifications include Razorback Offroad Expedition gear rack and gun rack, a Prinsu Roof Rack, an assortment of Rigid lights, a Big Sky Racks gun rack, RotopaX, and a Vertex radio. The General has 854.3 miles on it (94.5 hours) and looks to be in great shape. Better yet, it comes with a custom-built, four-axle off-road trailer, though the buyer will need to bring their own ramps.
The listing is live on Expedition Portal now. The ad asks, “Looking for a side-by-side built to X Overland standards? A recreational machine capable of exploring beyond the reach of a full-sized vehicle? A versatile and sporty utility vehicle built to do it all? [X Overland’s] 2020 Polaris General is it!” We can’t argue with that. Now all you need is to cough up a cool $50,000 for what is possibly the world’s best-equipped UTV.
