One of the only things more fun than flogging your UTV through the woods is sharing that experience with your friends. It can take a lot of time, equipment, and editing if you want to put together videos of action shots, but GoPro thinks it has the answer to that problem. With the launch of the Hero9 Black, GoPro released a series of Mods for the new camera that are meant to transform it from a simple action cam into a full-on vlogging setup.
The idea is simple, these new Mods attach directly to your GoPro Hero9 in a few seconds to add features more suited for standard filming applications. The Display Mod adds a larger front screen to your camera so you can more easily frame yourself in the shot. The new Light Mod ensures that your face is well lit, so people can actually see you. This is especially useful deep in the woods or during rides at dusk. And finally, to make sure everyone can hear you better, there is a Media Mod that adds a higher-quality microphone to your GoPro. It’s directional, which means your voice gets picked up but the sound of the kids running through the leaves behind the camera doesn’t. The Media Mod also has a couple of cold-shoe mounts, so you can attach the Light Mod and Display Mod to it, creating a single unit.
When it comes to durability, GoPro claims the Media Mod is weather-resistant, and the Light Mod is waterproof to 33 feet. There are no such claims for the Display Mod, so maybe be careful with that. If you are worried about breaking your new equipment, just pop off the mods and you have the same rugged camera you started with.
We can’t tell you how well the new Hero9 Black or the Mods work until we get some hands-on time to test them, but on paper, the new products look to be great additions. No better way to capture and share your UTV exploits.
