UTV Driver heads from Ensenada to Mike’s Sky Rancho in Can-Am’s all-new turbocharged 2017 Maverick X3. See the full 200-mile torture test.
One of the most popular runs in Northern Baja Mexico is a trip to Mike’s Sky Ranch. There are several ways to get there but on this trip, we took the most scenic route.
From Ensenada, head South on Hwy 1 about 45 minutes to the small town of Santo Thomas. There is a huge campground to unload in and stage out of. From there, we jumped on a well used dirt road heading West called Rancho Embarcadero to a left turn Camino A Ejido Erendira, that is regularly used as the Baja 500 and 1000 race course. Once at the Pacific Ocean, the road heads South. At the next town Erendira, we stayed on the race course and took a quarter mile wide sand wash East bound back toward HWY 1. When the wash narrowed three miles up, we climbed some hills on the right and got on graded ranch roads that took us into the town of San Vecente which is a great place to top off with gas and grab a taco.
After filling up, we traveled ten miles South along HWY 1 again and reconvened with the Baja race course and what’s known as the cross over road or Los Panchos. This dirt road heads East toward the town of Valle De Trinidad. Just before town a hard right turn at the town power station keeps you on the race course and meanders South into the mountains, up to our UTV Destination, Mikes Sky Rancho.
It’s an easy trip if you know your way around Baja and are skilled using GPS.
