Let Project Farm Help You Pick the Best Trail Saw

Project Farm puts an indispensable tool through rigorous instrumented tests.

At just 17 bucks, the Corona folding handsaw punches way above its weight in a field of much more expensive saws.Project Farm

A good folding handsaw is an absolutely indispensable tool out on the trail. Easier to carry than a chain saw, they don’t require maintenance or gas, and they fold safely away when they aren’t in use. Added to that, you can stash one almost anywhere, so you’re pretty much always ready to clear away a small branch or even a downed sapling. But there are hundreds out there to choose from, and they’re all pretty close in price. Project Farm set out to decide once and for all which saw is best, and the results… Well, they actually aren’t all that surprising.

We’ve relied on folding saws by Corona or Silky for a long time, as they are both razor sharp out of the box, durable, comfy to use, and have great cutting efficiency. They’re also affordable, high-quality, and easy to find at any local hardware store. Silkys aren’t cheap, in fact the Silky is the most expensive saw in this test. Although it performed well, the Silky is solidly outperformed by the Corona at just about every turn. And the best part is that at $17, the Corona is among the cheapest saws in the test. We’re not saying this video answers the question once and for all, but at that price you could have two Coronas for the price of a Silky and get some change back, to boot. We’ll take that any day.
