Watch Jesse From 4WD 24/7 Start an Insane Nissan Build

Every rig on the 4WD 24/7 YouTube channel is something of a dream build. Almost all of them have been stripped back to bare frame and built back up with the nicest parts available. In some cases, brand-new rigs get cut in half to make them bigger, better versions of their stock configurations. But in this case, the crew is pushing past its usual boundaries, tapping Jesse to take on an ambitious swap project. When it’s finished, Jesse will have a GU-generation Nissan Patrol stuffed with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six from a BMW X5 backed by a ZF six-speed automatic transmission

The benefit of the big BMW mill, according to Jesse, is its ability to make big power with stock parts. With a computer tune on the stock fuel injectors and turbo, Jesse figures the setup will be good for around 520 lb.-ft. of torque and 250-ish horsepower. That’s bananas from a 3.0-liter six, and especially nuts when you consider that it’s on stock fuel system and induction parts.

The engine and transmission work will come later. This episode focuses on getting the chassis and suspension cleaned up and ready for action. In true 4WD 24/7 fashion, the cab gets ripped off and the frame gets taken almost to bare metal before some serious fabrication work, rust-preventative Raptor coating, and weld-in bracing.
