Jock and Jesse of 4WD 24/7 took a special episode of Beers in the Shed recently to go over two of our favorite Aussies’ latest overland builds. Filmed in Cape York, the crew’s favorite northern Australia wheeling spot, the duo go over the Land Rover Perentie build and Jesse’s BMW-powered Nissan Patrol.
Both of the big SUVs have featured on the channel before, but until now they have been works in progress. In fact, the last time we heard anything about the Patrol it was still in pieces. Jesse said he had to put in weeks of late nights to get it ready for the trip, but the work paid off with a worry-free expedition up the cape.
The Land Rover Perentie is a special project for the crew. It’s an Australian army-only Land Rover spec, rocking a turbodiesel four-cylinder and a five-speed transmission. They’re as important to the Aussie armed forces as the Humvee is to American service members. The crew built this one up specifically to auction it to benefit an Australian veterans’ organization.
The quality of the machine seems to have made Jock jealous, though, so we doubt it will be long before he adds a Landie of his own to his already epic fleet of Toyota Hiluxes.
