Watch 4WD 24/7 Take Two Days to Go 8 Miles

When the going gets muddy, the tough break everything.

In which speed is the enemy…4WD 24/7

It’s reasonable to expect that when you make a show about epic off-road adventures that every once in a while you’ll get absolutely hammered by a trail. It’s also reasonable to expect breakages, and it’s reasonable to want those tough trails and bad breaks to be photogenic and camera-worthy. And with 4WD 24/7, they usually are. Except when there’s mud involved.

In this frame, one of the 4WD 24/7 crew is learning that putting your winch hook on the dashboard before trying a nasty obstacle isn’t always a good idea. Nobody was hurt, but this was a close one.4WD 24/7

Their latest stack of calamities befell them on a deceptively short trail in northern Tasmania. The crew is trying to use trails that haven’t been used in a few years to reach a remote pub. And given that Tasmania is roughly the size of West Virginia, that doesn’t present as hugely challenging. And when the main track is just about 8 miles long, it seems to get even easier.

Not this time. You see, the mud showed up, and that means a winch in every mudhole, and some truly epic mechanical failures. No spoilers, but this is an object lesson in why we don’t run winch ropes under vehicles. Click through to the video to check out the calamity for yourself.
