The 4WD 24/7 dudes continued their American adventure last week in Colorado, a few videos after they tackled the Rubicon Trail in the Dirty 30 Land Cruiser and a built Jeep Rubicon. This time, instead of an iconic-but-short trail, they’re heading for Imogene Pass and then Holy Cross Trail. That means low temperatures, high elevations, frozen lakes, and summertime snow. Oh, and because it’s 4WD 24/7, there’s a bunch of broken parts for good measure.
The first big challenge is the pass itself, and it comes in the form of a melting snowdrift. There are a couple of factors at play with summertime snow. First, it’s still well deep enough to take a trail that is bench-cut into the slope and make it just as steep as the hill it traverses. Second, as the ground warms the snow melts from underneath, making the surface both slippery and unstable.
Suffice it to say, the crew’s trip gets spicy. And that’s before the breakages and epic camping spots start. We’ll keep the spoilers to a minimum—it’s more than worth the time to watch the video yourself.
