AmsOil Puts UTV DCT Fluid Through Maverick R Torture Test

AmsOil just released a new dual-clutch transmission fluid specifically formulated for use in UTVs. It’s a first for AmsOil, which appears to be betting that there will be more DCTs coming in the future. We know the soon-to-be-released Segway Super Villain routes power through a DCT, and the Honda Talon and Yamaha YXZ1000R have both long relied on DCTs over the de rigueur CVT.

But to prove the mettle of its new formula, AmsOil went straight to Can-Am, bragging in the news release about the fully synthetic fluid that it stood up to the rigors of full-throttle use in the Mav R. AmsOil claims its UTV-ATV-specific formula matches or exceeds the OEM-branded fluid.

The release makes all the standard claims: The fluid eliminates shudder, promotes quick shifting, offers increased wear protection, and will lengthen the service life of your transmission. We can attest to that, but it is true that AmsOil’s formula is the only UTV-specific alternative to manufacturer-branded fluid.

The oil isn’t cheap at $25 a quart, but if AmsOil’s claims are even half true, it should be decent stuff. Check out more information at AmsOil’s website.
