While brands like Kawasaki just released their first four-seat sport side-by-side this year with the KRX4 1000, most manufacturers have had multi-passenger utility side-by-sides for years. Anyone in the market for a utility side-by-side is bound to come across the Kawasaki Mule, and for good reason. Our pick out of the Mule line, however, is the Mule Pro-DXT Diesel. Not only are you getting a 993cc diesel engine in this trim, but you can also tow up to a ton while seating up to six people. As a bonus, if you are only riding with one to three people, the rear seat folds down for extra cargo space and will increase the bed capacity from 350 pounds to 999 pounds. Coming in at $17,499, affordability, capability, and passenger space all come in one package.

The Polaris Ranger has cemented itself as one of the most popular UTVs in the world, and for good reason. The Ranger Crew XP 1000 comes with 2,500 pounds of towing capability, 1,000 pounds of rear box capacity, and 82 hp delivered through a 999cc twin-cylinder four-stroke, all while seating up to six people. Throw in 13 inches of ground clearance and you have one of the best multi-passenger UTVs on the market. The Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 starts at $22,099, but can get expensive once add-ons start piling up.

The 2022 Yamaha Viking VI EPS Ranch Edition wins us over with how simple it is. The 686cc four-stroke engine is plenty of power for a work rig and with Yamaha’s automatic centrifugal clutch, belt maintenance won’t be a problem. Even with the long-lasting transmission setup, Yamaha offers a 10-year belt warranty to back one of the most reliable transmissions on the market. The Viking can only tow 1,500 pounds and haul 600, but if you want a low-maintenance and reliable six-seater UTV, the Viking is the way to go. What makes it even better, the VI EPS Ranch Edition is the most expensive package, and only comes in at $16,099.

It’s almost impossible to go wrong with any choice of Defender. While the cheaper options will come with underpowered HD7 engines, the Defender Max XT comes with Can-Am’s famous Rotax HD10 82 hp V-twin engine. The main reason we went with the Max XT is that it comes with a 4,500-pound winch, which will make any job easy. You also get a steel front bumper, Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires, and a full skid plate. With a towing capacity of 2,500 pounds and being able to haul 1,000, the Defender Max XT makes for a monster of a utility rig. The Defender is simple and to some it feels outdated, but if you want a rig that will handle everything you throw at it without putting up a fight, the Defender Max XT is your rig. The 2022 Can-Am Defender Max XT starts at $19,799.
