Due to rising side-by-side traffic, Black Hills National Forest is proposing a rise in admission fees and attraction prices. Proposed August 5, entry prices per vehicle would increase from free to $10 for a one-day permit, $20 to $30 for a weekly permit, and $25 to $50 for an annual permit. Black Hills started requiring UTV permits in 2011, and the park sold almost 8,000 permits that first year. Now, that number is well over 30,000.

“Usage at recreation sites on the Black Hills National Forest has changed over the past 15–20 years. An increase of fees is needed to meet public expectations and the increasing demands of recreation activities across the forest,” forest supervisor Shawn Cochran said.

If the proposal is approved by the Black Hills Forest Advisory Board, the new fees would come into effect next year.
