Brock Heger last week wrapped up an off-roading “triple crown,” securing the UTV Hammers Championship at King of the Hammers. The win joins his 2024 Baja 1000 victory and his 2025 Dakar Rally SSV class win to round out the triple. Heger also won the King of the Hammers Rock Race earlier this month. He led both races at KOH start to finish in his Polaris RZR Pro R Factory.

Heger’s win netted him the “triple crown” of desert racing—a Baja 1000, Dakar Rally, and KOH championship in the same 12 months. And it means Polaris Factory Racing had a flawless start to 2025.Polaris

Heger broke the tape at the Hammers Championship 26 minutes ahead of the next-closest competitor, adding to his habit of winning by big margins. With three wins in a row to kick off 2025, Polaris has thrown a gauntlet down. Over the last three years, it has secured two SCORE championships, two Dakar wins, and now two wins at Hammers.

The turnaround has been swift, as until a couple of years ago Can-Am was destroying all comers in the desert racing scene domestically and internationally. The introduction of the Pro R Factory in 2023 started to change that, and the momentum accelerated last year.

With its Maverick R still working on finding its best racing form, Can-Am isn’t out of it yet. In fact, Kyle Chaney had his own success at King of the Hammers this year. That’s another story, but here’s the point: A surging Polaris and a hungry Can-Am mean that the desert racing rivalry is getting heated, and that is excellent news for fans.
