Can-Am is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and it’s doing it by going somewhat back to its roots. Before the Maverick, Defender, and Commander came along, Can-Am made motorcycles; good motorcycles too. The company built a reputation by winning races. Recently, though, its only production “motorcycles” are the Ryker and Spyder, both of which are three-wheelers.
For its half-century, the company unveiled two new products, the Pulse and the Origin. We saw this coming last year, when Can-Am acquired Great Wall Motor, a company that specializes in E-drive systems and transmissions. We assumed it was to produce an electric side-by-side, but this is just as exciting.
But why do we really care? We’re not a motorcycle news outlet, check out Cycle World or Motorcyclist for that. The reason we care about this is because, knowing Can-Am, an electric side-by-side is probably in the works. The Québec company can’t sit back and let Polaris and Volcon have all of the EV fun.
This is still all speculation, but we can still be hopeful. The video that Can-Am posted on its YouTube channel mainly focuses on motorcycles, but some side-by-sides were sprinkled in the mix. The video description also reads, “You know the best part? We’re just warming up.” If that means what we hope it means, then we’re in for a treat, and soon.
