The thing about Dustin Jones is that you never know where he’s going to show up in relation to a Can-Am UTV. He might be inside winning a race like last year’s Silver State 300. He might be inside pulling our own Aaron Richardson out of a mudhole. He might be outside giving away his personal rig. Or, here, he’s staying far away from a Can-Am Defender Pro Limited while the family-owned shop he runs, S3 Power Sports, builds a Can-Am Coffee Cruiser for King of the Hammers.
The Canadian UTV outfit tasked Jones with prepping a coffee shop on wheels that could also get anywhere around the Johnson Valley OHV area. Jones left it to his build master, Logan, to create a cabbed Defender that wouldn’t be afraid to dispense with every boulder on its way to dispensing coffee, a liquid as important as fuel during KOH.
Knowing the enclosed “barista box” would create a higher center of gravity, the S3 team bolted on its in-house suspension to widen the track for the 35-inch tires—and note the latte coloring of those arms and matching front bumper. Then, inching the center of gravity even higher while multiplying capability, S3 installed portal axles. And a JL Audio roof and a television. Because coffee and race recaps at Chocolate Thunder at dawn is the kind of luxury KOH pioneers of years ago once dreamed of. As Logan said, “Coffee at Hammers is a 100% good idea,” and we think Can-Am should share this rig with other races too.
