Grind Hard Plumbing Upgrades Its Corvette-Powered Hummer

Time for racing seats, Magnaflow exhaust, and some real purty fab work…

If you ever wanted to see what it takes to install a custom exhaust, watch this.GHPC

Well, Grind Hard Plumbing Company (GHPC) might have gone and done what every cable network car show has tried to do for the past decade: Created an ideal fabrication video. Evan and his new helper Padrick are working on the government-surplus Hummer they bought about six months ago and dragged back to Idaho seemingly against the Hummer’s will. After a feast of work to get the thing halfway to decent, GHPC installed a 5.7-liter LS1 V-8 from a C5 Chevrolet Corvette in September.

Now that it runs a treat and has proven its ability to get big air, GHPC has some raceworthy upgrades to bolt in. There are Corbeau racing seats for comfort, separate transmission and oil coolers for all-day running in Baja, and a Magnaflow exhaust for noise.

What’s ideal about all this? Over the 41 minutes of this episode, we get a tutorial in how much work it takes to route a performance exhaust in a vehicle it wasn’t made for, with engaging, informative hosts, quiet professionalism, and no manufactured drama. We also get to ogle some cool tools as we watch Padrick make custom brackets for the coolers, and make a custom tube-notching brace for the shop welding table. There’s even a science digression when Evan yells through a muffler to see how many decibels the muffler cuts.

And then, of course, there’s more drifting and jumping. Because LS1-powered Hummer. Enjoy.
