Kyle Chaney last week became the first UTV competitor to win the King of the Hammers Race of Kings overall. Chaney won the race by 30 minutes in his modified 2025 Can-Am Maverick R, securing a huge win for the Canadian brand in a week otherwise dominated by Polaris.
Chaney and co-driver Terry Madden started the race on the second row in fourth position, before taking the lead on lap two of the three-lap race. After that, the result was down to Madden’s navigation. The Race of Kings laps are all different, and this year competitors had no opportunity to pre-run the third lap. The route wasn’t made public until the day before the race itself, so quick thinking and deft nav were going to be key.
Can-Am fielded three Mav Rs for the Race of Kings, with Hunter Miller and Cody Miller joining Chaney. The Miller brothers finished 48th and 41st, respectively. All three Maverick Rs were race prepped by CT Race Worx. The drivetrains were left alone, but chassis were modified to fit 37-inch tires.
This isn’t the first time a Maverick R has secured an overall win in a field dotted with purpose-built trucks and buggies. Dustin Jones won the Can-Am Maverick R’s first-ever race at the 2023 Silver State 300. Expect to see more impressive results at the Mav R’s next event, the San Felipe 250 on April 5.
