Mattracks Celebrates 30 Years

The company that showed the world it was possible to put tank-style tracks on a GMT400 and drive over or through anything that lay in your way turns 30 this year. Mattracks got its start in 1994 in Greenbush, Minnesota, the brainchild of 11-year-old Matt Brazier, who asked his dad, Glen Brazier, if putting tracks on a truck would work.

The elder Brazier got his business network moving, and by 1996 Mattracks had secured a government contract and sent Humvee track systems to Bosnia, moved to a 200,000 square-foot facility in Karlstad, Minnesota, and opened an R&D annex. The company developed at a superhot pace for the ensuing five years or so.

It introduced the first ATV track system in 2000, and the first-ever track system for a UTV was bolted to a Kawasaki Mule in 2001. Development has continued onto bigger and bigger machines over the years, the company has expanded to China, and its systems have appeared in a bunch of movies, including the Fast and Furious franchise and the Terminator franchise.
