Utah Rednecks Are Built Different

Watch Matt’s Off-Road Recovery put the Heavy Wrecker to the test.

That’d be a nasty climb with nothing in tow, let alone a stricken Isuzu Rodeo.Matt’s Off-Road Recovery

Matt’s Off-Road Recovery did us all a favor last week by putting on full display the power of redneck engineering might and fabrication skill. After roughly 18 months of cutting and fabricating and building, the Heavy Wrecker got its chance to take center stage at the Off-Road Wrecker Games, a series of off-road recovery challenges designed by Matt to pit other companies’ big rigs against his own creation. There’s a healthy dose of bribery and other good-natured chicanery, but there’s no getting around the fact that the Heavy Wrecker is a damned impressive machine, and that Matt is one hell of a rock crawler.

The big rig barely flinched at the big rock steps and extremely steep pitches.Matt’s Off-Road Recovery

The video starts slow, but about halfway through the wrecker and its competitors get into the teeth of a series of rock steps, long climbs, and cracks that require as much articulation and traction as they can muster. The Heavy Wrecker’s total lack of reverse is a serious handicap, but even that doesn’t do much to hold it back. At least as impressive are the other rigs that showed up to test their mettle against the Utah desert. We highly recommend taking the time at lunch to check this video out for yourself.
