After months of work, the crew at Matt’s Off-Road Recovery finally got the off-road wrecker out for some fun. The custom rig is purpose built to pull machines out of the backcountry with five-ton axles, a walloping V-8, and rear-steer, all with a vintage International Harvester cab perched on top. The thing sounds great and does excellent four-steer donuts, but is it ready for the trail? The crew brought it out to the slickrock to find out, and things didn’t exactly go as planned.
Transfer case woes kept the big rig from tackling its first obstacle, but Matt was able to pick a different line and get the machine back to the shop. Matt’s visibly disappointed in the wrecker’s performance, but something tells us that if we built a wild wrecker from scratch, we’d have more than transfer case issues.
The team pulled the cab and diagnosed the issue, and pretty soon the big rig was back with all four tires pulling. Check out the video.
