Last year, Obor released its Tricera tire, claiming “the Tricera tire is engineered to thrive in extreme conditions similar to the renowned King of the Hammers, Baja 1000, Mint 400, and Ultra4 races.” What do racers want? Lightness and durability.
Covering both bases, this is Obor’s first steel-belted tire and it was said to be the lightest on the market, a 32x10-15 size weighing 39.5 pounds. One feature to cut pounds is a rounded profile to the 9/16ths tread blocks, said to have shaved weight without sacrificing traction. That lack of heft didn’t compromise toughness, the Tricera boasting eight-ply construction and an anti-puncture layer under the tread void, another barrier to any shards that make it beyond the 9/16 tread blocks.
From the tire’s release last August to now, however, the Tricera’s only been sold in that one 32-inch size. At the Baja 1000, Obor introduced another option that a lot of racers will be looking for, a 35x10-15. The debut location has seen the company lean into the tire’s competition focus, saying it’s “built specifically for competition UTVs,” and Obor Marketing Manager Bruce Nyland saying, “Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure this tire meets the high standards that professional racers and enthusiasts expect, and the Baja 1000 is the perfect stage to showcase its capabilities.” As far as we can tell from the literature, though, there’s no difference between the 32-inch and the 35-inch other than size.
Our internet searches come up empty when trying to find the new size on sale. If you’re keen, check with your local dealer about getting a set in. For reference, the 32-inch version generally runs about $300 at various online shops, but can be had on sale at the moment for $250.
