King of the Hammers kicks off this weekend in Johnson Valley, California. The two-week festival of speed and dirt is expected to attract around 80,000 people to the otherwise sleepy area, and with little cellphone service, learning your way around is no small task. But the good folks at onX Offroad are once again providing downloadable offline maps specifically tailored to KOH.
OnX has trail overlays for KOH that show spectator trails and racecourse trails, will let you make custom waypoints to mark your campsite, key spots in Hammertown, and spectating points, and 3D maps so you can get a detailed look at the terrain. And, as always, there is a detailed street map of Hammertown, so you know exactly where to get anything and everything you need.
The offline maps are available for onX Offroad subscribers. To download the KOH maps, open onX Offroad, search for “Johnson Valley OHV Open Riding Area,” and zoom in on the King of the Hammers area. Then, tap offline maps, select new map, and choose the low-, medium-, or high-detail map and start the download. Give your map an easy-to-remember name, and you’re good to go.
OnX Offroad is available in Apple or Android app stores. If you already have onX, make sure the app is up-to-date before starting your download.
