Polaris Shows Us How To Prep Land for Deer Hunting

The good news is that it gets easier over time.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what it takes to maintain land for hunting.Polaris Off-Road

Owning a piece of land is a significant privilege, but it takes a lot of work and upkeep. Deer hunting takes some prep, and Polaris Off-Road recently detailed what it takes to prepare the land for the season.

Although the process is labor-intensive, Polaris said the work gets easier as time goes on. The initial prep and mowing can be challenging, but regular maintenance makes things less stressful. After mowing, the crew used a cultivator to clean a clearing, removing roots and debris scattered on the ground. They then used a Polaris Ranger XP 1000 and a sprayer system to spread herbicide and get rid of unwanted vegetation.

Another tilling later, the team planted the space with turnips and other plants to attract deer. The work looked intense, but they pointed out that the job wasn’t done. They plan to add a water system with a pond for drinking, and the updates should help prevent flooding, which was a problem for the land in years past.

If you’re planning on working a piece of land for deer hunting, simple guides like this are a great starting point, but you’ll need to do more research to make sure you’re getting the right products. Herbicides can be dangerous if used improperly, and it’s important to observe the land for flood risks and other issues. Finally, don’t go out alone if you’re not experienced outdoors. The Polaris crew ended the video by noting how thirsty they were, so it’s important to have enough water and food on hand to support yourself.
