Polaris Factory Racing has effectively redesigned the RZR Pro R Factory for the 2024 desert racing season. The second-generation Pro R Factory has a one-piece chassis, carbon fiber bodywork, MoTeC engine management and electronics, a race-tuned Dynamix DV suspension control module, and new Alcon brakes.
The Gen 2 Pro R Factory has big shoes to fill. In its first season, Polaris Factory Racing snagged the 2023 SCORE off-road championship in the then-new Pro R Factory. The Gen 2 rig is more evolution than revolution, but there are some big changes on board. The biggest change is the new one-piece chassis.
Polaris says it was looking for strength, space, safety, and ergonomic improvements with the new frame. The result is a chromoly chassis that Polaris claims weighs the same as the old unit, but is roomier, stronger, and has a safety cage that is two times stronger than FIA requirements.
The chassis was designed by Polaris, but is being built by Technique Inc., the company that builds every NASCAR chassis. Polaris is still using its excellent in-house Dynamix DV electronic suspension, but it was updated this year to better deal with North American desert races. There are four suspension settings—comfort, Baja soft, Baja medium, and Baja firm—in the new rig, developed based on feedback from last year.
The new MoTeC race ECU controls the stock RZR Pro R’s naturally aspirated four-cylinder ProStar 2 engine. MoTeC also handled power distribution and switch panels inside the car. Additionally the Gen 2 gets a carbon fiber prop shaft, a new muffler, a smattering of new carbon fiber bodywork, a bigger fuel cell, and stronger upper control arms.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Gen 2 RZR Pro R Factory this weekend at the San Felipe 250.
