How To Make a Mini Jeep Cool: Reengineer It and Add Turbo

Grind Hard Plumbing Co. builds another one-off.

Just a few more tack welds and GHPC will have… Whatever this thing is.Grind Hard Plumbing

\There has been a rash of this in the last year or so. That is, YouTubers getting their hands on Amazon Mini Jeeps only to realize they are basically trash if you try to use them for anything more complicated than driving circles around your yard. It’s not a knock on the Jeeps, really. One look should tell you this is not for doing “Jeep things,” it’s for keeping your kids distracted and amused for the week after Christmas.

Mini Jeeps leave the factory dynamically compromised. Adding a turbo doesn’t help, as GHPC is discovering here.Grind Hard Plumbing

And yet. Grind Hard Plumbing Co. are the latest band of pranksters to get into the Mini Jeep building scene. They started with the standard Amazon Mini Jeep. Then they added a turbo. Then they discovered that all the extra power does not an off-roader make.

That led to the purchase of a pair of axles and a transfer case from a Suzuki Samurai, the Rotax V-twin from an old ATV, and lots and lots of cutting, measuring, welding, cutting again, and so on. They’re not done yet, but when they are they’ll have a lengthened Mini Jeep body on a custom frame with a turbo’d ATV engine. Mission accomplished, we guess.
