The Can-Am Maverick R will make its FIA competition debut in January at the Dakar Rally, with four entries in the T4 SSV class. Can-Am Factory Racing’s efforts will be led by American Sara Price, who made history at the 2024 Dakar when she became the first American woman to win a stage at the rally. Price is teaming up with co-driver Sean Berriman this year, who notched a Dakar win in 2020 as co-driver for Casey Currie.
Fellow American Hunter Miller is joining the Can-Am Factory team for 2025 with co-driver Andrew Short. Miller won King of the Hammers in 2020, and has notched a pile of domestic UTV and ATV racing wins. Can-Am’s factory lineup will be rounded out by Dakar winner Francisco “Chaleco” López, and three-time Dakar stage winner Jeremías González Ferioli.
The FIA-spec Maverick Rs will lose horsepower to the stock machine thanks to the FIA’s strict engine regulations, but will still have DCTs and the “tall knuckle” suspension design that defines the machine. Can-Am’s longtime race partner South Racing developed the chassis to meet strict FIA safety standards while retaining stock geometry.
The race starts January 3 in Bisha, Saudi Arabia, winding its way across the peninsula and back before wrapping up on January 17.
