Segway Celebrates 100,000th Off-Road Vehicle Off the Lines

Also says SX20T is entering mass production 14 months after it debuted.

It started with the Snarler, Fugelman, and Viilain, it continues with the Super Villain SX20T.Segway

It’s been quite the year for powersports makers hitting production milestones. In June, Suzuki Manufacturing of America built its 500,000th ATV—a KingQuad 750AXi—at its plant in Rome, Georgia, a feat that took 20 years. In November, Can-Am announced it had built its 500,000th Defender SxS, unlocked the achievement after nine years of production at the Juarez, Mexico plant that assembles the utility icon.

Now Segway has let the world it’s just made its 100,000th off-road vehicle. Segway didn’t identify a production site nor a model, so we’ll assume the tally counts Segway’s UT and Villain ranges of UTVs that we do get in the U.S and the line of Snarler ATVs that we don’t. The brand launched its powersports product at the end of 2020 overseas, reaching six figures off the line in four years.

Segway planted flags in the U.S. after opening up shop in places like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. In 2021, we wrote about the arrival of the Snarler AT6 Hybrid ATV, the Villain SX10 and SX10 Hybrid—that Villain coming in two widths—and the Fugelman UT6 Hybrid and UT10 work rigs. We said at the time, “Admittedly, we were skeptical that a company that produces those weird, upright personal electric transportation scooter things could understand the expectations of powersports enthusiasts.” Four years on, the Snarler didn’t last long and we’re still waiting on those hybrids, but the current lineup of Villain, Super Villain, UT10, UT10 Crew, and UT6 has made plenty of friends. In May 2024, Segway reported record growth in Q1, posting a 343% leap in retail sales over the same time in 2023.

Segway claims it’s celebrating another big moment as well, the new SX20T entering mass production. We’ll be patient about that and let Segway be enthusiastic; the company launched the SX20T in November 2023 and showed it alongside its hybrid counterpart, the SX20T Hybrid, a year ago at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show. We expect it’s coming eventually, but one would have that that a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 235 horsepower would have got it here sooner.
