Powersports companies are constantly exploring ways to draw in more customers and keep them loyal. One way to do that is by expanding warranty coverage, and Segway Powersports’ recent announcement showed that it is serious about backing its vehicles. The company introduced Next-Gen Protection, its new limited lifetime powertrain warranty package.

The coverage comes standard for all 1,000cc and above engines and lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle under its original owner. It’s nontransferable, so it won’t follow the vehicle to a new buyer, but it’s pretty comprehensive coverage for the first owner. It’s worth noting that most Segway competitors offer six months to a year of coverage with the option to extend for a period at an additional cost.

Segway includes labor and parts in the warranty protection, but wear items like clutch parts and other components are excluded. The warranty also does not cover the drive shafts, axles, and front differential components, though Segway noted that its one-year warranty may cover some of those parts.

Jason Walling, a Segway executive, said, “It’s a benchmark that showcases the company’s commitment to quality and reliability. We believe this is the ultimate display of confidence in the craftsmanship and durability of our product. We know we’ve got something special, so we wanted to do what nobody else would dare to. I guess you could say it’s a bit of a flex, but we really are invested in making customer assurance a top priority here at Segway.”
