While the electric car market continues to grow, it’s only a matter of time before that trend carries over into side-by-sides. We’ve already seen it with the Polaris Ranger XP Kinetic, but that’s about where the list ends for mainstream electric UTVs. That is until now, when Taiwanese company Kandi Industries decided to bring 10,000 of its side-by-sides to the US market

Kandi Industries is known for manufacturing golf carts, which is probably why you’ve never heard of it. Along with golf carts, Kandi makes mountain bikes, minibikes, go-karts, and UTVs. The three UTVs that are available for order, which are all electric, are the utility-focused Cowboy e10K and Innovator e10K, and the sporty Lucky T9.

The utility vehicles, both boasting a 2,500-pound towing capacity, are impressive in their own right, but we took a liking to the Lucky T9 sport side-by-side. Sure, it’s a bit small for what is on the market today, only has around 28 hp (21,000 watts), caps out at 40 miles of range, and looks like it was built from spare parts, but it’s an honest-to-god EV side-by-side that you can buy right now. No other manufacturer has released a sport EV. Volcon has been the closest, but the company has recently been plagued by manufacturing delays and funding issues. Plus, the Lucky is priced at $18,999.

The Kandi Lucky T9 might be unimpressive compared to other sport side-by-sides on the market, but it keeps pressure on the rest of the manufacturers to put their teams in gear and get to work on an EV.
