Hoonigan Puts a Maverick R Against a Pro 4 Truck in a Drag Race

‘This vs. That’ episode is a case of UTV vs. OMG.

Who can cover 1000 feet quicker, one liter and 240 hp or seven liters and 850 hp?Hoonigan

Like a few other once-invincible YouTube channels, Hoonigan’s been through the ringer recently, but it’s still out there and still doing Hoonigan things. That means, for an episode of This vs. That, putting a nearly stock Can-Am Maverick R against a custom Pro 4 truck that ran the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series.

In one corner, Kory Willis with PPEI Custom Tuning and his 2,500-pound Maverick R. The rig runs the same turbocharged 1.0-liter making the same 240 hp as any showroom model. About the only upgrades are a set of tires and a triple radiator setup that’s been relocated to behind the cockpit.

In the other corner, RJ Anderson with his 4,300-pound tube-framed Pro 4 truck that was built in 2016 for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. This one is powered by a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V-8 located amidships, its 850 hp sent to both axles and screaming a hellish wail.

The fight is three rounds of a jump-filled 1,000-foot drag over the dirt. If you remember the specs we just gave you, or you’ve ever seen a Pro 4 race, you should have an idea of how to wager. But there’s a lot of good details about Pro 4, and by golly there’s an exhaust note stirring enough to make every bald eagle cry out in joy and salute.
