The Can-Am Maverick R is a wildly capable vehicle that can tackle nearly any type of terrain, so there’s only one logical thing to do with it: Head to Portugal for a three-part driving challenge with Travis Pastrana and two pro racers.
Pro mountain biker Fabio Wibmer and pro sled styler Andreas Bergmark put the Can-Ams through three challenges, including the best drift, longest jump, and a timed race. The Maverick R performed well for both drivers, but Wibmer found its steering limits early on with a bit of understeer, sending him off course. Bergmark’s drift went smoothly, but he missed the throttle after a corner and lacked the sideways action Wibmer delivered.
Wibmer’s jumps were less impressive, as he stayed on the throttle and lost distance on the flight. Bergmark’s were worse due to not having enough speed on the jump, giving Wibmer a two-nil advantage.
Former Formula E driver Daniel Abt joined for the time trial challenge, but Bergmark and Wibmer were a mere two-tenths apart. Abt’s time was slightly slower, with Pastrana explaining that the first two guys’ lack of experience gave them higher entry speeds into the corner, allowing a faster exit. At the end, Pastrana decided to put in a lap, but his run couldn’t match Wibmer’s time, giving him the edge in all three challenges.
