Volcon said this week it has received an order from the US Army Corps of Engineers for an additional five slightly modified versions of its Stag electric UTV. The vehicles will be used by the Corps of Engineers as disaster and emergency response vehicles, according to a news release. The Stags the Army gets will be modified from the civilian versions with a slightly stronger 54kWh powertrain.
The Army previously ordered two Stags back in October for the same purpose. With the five units in this order, there will be a total of seven Volcon Stags under the management of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Construction Engineering Research Laboratory. According to the news release, the machines will also be introduced to soldiers at different training sites and assessed for other Army applications.
The orders are part of the Army’s wider 2022 Climate Strategy and the government’s Federal Sustainability Plan introduced in 2021. With ambitious goals approaching, the Army appears to be looking at practical ways to incorporate electric vehicles into its fleet use.
According to Volcon, the new units will be delivered late this year.
