Robby Gordon made a few exciting announcements on last night’s Speed UTV live stream. Chief among those: Customers will begin receiving Diablo and El Jefe vehicles in February. Speed also plans to offer a rally package for the two-seat Baja Bandit. The company hasn’t released official horsepower or torque numbers, but Gordon says he’s seen up to 109 mph in their preproduction rig with “a lot left in it.” More importantly, a Rally Package–equipped Alpha prototype managed to get around the Speed UTV test track a full three seconds per lap quicker than Gordon’s Stadium Super Truck. For reference, that machine is a 600-horsepower monster.
Details are scarce at the moment, but from all appearances, the Rally Package consists of 15-inch wheels wrapped in Nascar slicks, plus a lowered suspension. Gordon says he can see the machine being a solid alternative to a US Legend car, right at home on any of the country’s dirt ovals. We can also see it as a natural fit for a track-day toy or a turnkey rally racer, as it comes with a full cage and five-point harnesses right out of the box. The four-wheel-drive platform makes it a natural fit for loose surfaces, too.
Check out the full live stream below, including more details on the engineering cleverness that allows all of the company’s machines to share a number of parts, from roll cage components to fuel cells and even wiring harnesses.
