The 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport writes a lot of checks about its ability to deal with tough terrain, from its extra inch of ground clearance to its torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and its off-road-centric drive modes. And it has beefy skid plates front to back and recovery points to make winching it out of strife easier. But, as TFLtruck demonstrates in this video, that only means it’s an “off-roader” relative to other crossovers.
With just 8 inches of ground clearance, big overhangs, and big plastic bumpers, nobody will ever mistake it for a Land Rover. Thanks to its low-slung stance and size, the TFL test truck does plenty of scraping in the video, even on the fairly easy trails the truck was thrown at. That said, it has a 2.5-inch hitch receiver, and it’s a little more rugged than the standard Pilot.
Based on what we’ve seen here, the Pilot makes a decent case as a daily driver that is slightly more rugged than your run-of-the-mill crossover or a standard Pilot, but still well capable of being a comfortable and sorted commuter.
