The paved road that serves the main trails at Windrock Park has been closed for the last few weeks as crews work to shore up the aged surface. Last week, the work took an exciting turn as crews used dynamite to clear rockfalls above the surface of the road. Known as P1, Windrock’s paved access road sees tons of traffic from ATVs, side-by-sides, Jeeps, rock bouncers, and the park’s Ford F-350 mountain bike shuttles.
The road has been closed for the last few weeks, which has made getting to and from certain trailheads a little more difficult than usual, but the closure is for a good cause. The road has needed maintenance for a couple of seasons, and fixing it up will make the park much safer as traffic volumes increase. The closure is worth it, and this video is proof positive that it’s not just a needless precaution.
As the drone footage shows, the work has made the road basically impassible, and as long as there is dynamite going off, it’s really only safe for construction crews and authorized personnel to be there. Not only that, the video footage is spectacular. Hit the video link to see what Windrock has been up to. We can’t wait for the road to reopen, but this footage is a great salve in the meantime.
