The rec-ute segment remains one of our favorites. These things are the multitools of side-by-sides, offering all the fun of a sport rig with most of the capability of some of our favorite utility machines. We recently sat down to discuss how this segment has changed over the past year, with old standards growing long in the tooth and newcomers bringing some big innovations. In the past, the Yamaha RMAX has been the rig to beat in the rec-ute segment, but is that still the case?
Both Segway and Polaris made big news this year with the additions of the Villain and Xpedition, respectively, and Yamaha even gave the RMAX a little in-house competition by sharpening up the aging Wolverine X2. Meanwhile, rigs like the Can-Am Commander, Honda Pioneer, and Kawasaki Teryx kept bringing the usual level of heat.
