The Polaris Ranger is a favorite among hunters and farmers who need a capable off-road rig to get things done. For 2021, Polaris added a host of improvements. With that in mind we are going to spend the next 12 weeks hammering on this brand-new 2021 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss to see how good it really is.
Some of the highlights found on our tester include upgraded clutching, which not only improves durability, but extends the clutch service interval threefold over the 2020 model to 6,000 miles. Front drive strength has also been increased by 30 percent, and a new chassis redesign has Polaris claiming a 15-percent strength improvement there. Finally, that new chassis also means a boost of 50 percent to suspension durability. That means you are less likely to break things when you “accidentally” jump your rig when coming through the cattle field.
One of the improvements we appreciate the most is the new standard LED headlights. When you’re clearing felled trees after a storm at 3 a.m. so you can repair a fence, light is key. Hopefully these new headlights mean we won’t need to spend a few hundred dollars strapping extra LEDs to the rig for once.
And finally, the last functional upgrade for our 2021 Trail Boss is the new 29-inch tires from Maxxis. More traction, more ground clearance, more fun. Those tires come wrapped around some new 14-inch aluminum wheels that almost look too nice to get dirty. Almost.
Keep it locked on utvdriver.com over the coming weeks to see what kind of shenanigans we can manage to get into with our new 2021 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Trail Boss. We already have plans to clear a few hundred acres of overgrown fence line, tear down part of a barn, and have fun in between.
